Applications for Summer Term are Now Open!

 

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Campus Food Bank! Our applications are open for intake four times a year: January, April, June and September. For the Spring and Summer months, this process consists of an Individual Interview scheduled with our Volunteer Coordinator. Our volunteer selection process for the Fall and Winter term includes both a Group Interview and an Individual Interview.  Volunteer Training each semester is mandatory and applicants must be available for the one day session.


Successful Volunteer Applicants:

  • Must attend all interviews and the mandatory training session
  • Will volunteer for two, one-hour office shifts per week, and minimum one special event in the community (awareness or fundraising for the food bank)
  • Must obtain a Police Information Check
  • Preference will be given to current students at the University of Alberta
  • Are expected to work hard, dedicate themselves, and commit to the Campus Food Bank's Mission to eliminate hunger on campus.


Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and issuing food hampers, perishables and toiletries
  • Repackaging bulk food for distribution to clients
  • Inspecting, sorting and stocking donations
  • Provide general information about the Campus Food Bank to clients, potential volunteers and donors
  • Educate clients about the policies and procedures of the Campus Food Bank
  • Be knowledgeable of services in the University of Alberta and Edmonton community that may help our clientele
  • Refer clients to other services as necessary
  • Assist with fundraising and special events (minimum of once per semester)
  • Performing data entry and other general office tasks (cleaning, organizing, filing, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned by staff

Campus Kitchen & Grocery Bus Volunteer Information

We recruit volunteers for this program in August for the Fall term and in January for the Winter term.


We are looking for volunteers to commit to assisting with this program for a minimum of one semester. Interest in cooking, nutrition and food security are all assets! Previous cooking experience is not necessary, but a willingness to learn and help others to learn is needed!


The application process includes both a Group Interview and an Individual Interview. The Group Interview will be during the first week of classes (applicants must attend this interview to progress with their application). Individual interviews are offered to selected applicants after the group interviews and take place between during the second week of classes. 


We have one set mandatory Volunteer Training day and applicants must be available for that day.
