Other ways to support the Campus Food Bank

Other than supporting us with a financial or food donation, how can you help us ensure no one goes hungry at UofA?

Volunteer!

Check our volunteer page for recruitment dates and more information on volunteer roles!

The Campus Food Bank depends on volunteers for several areas of our programming:

Office volunteers are responsible for the success of the supplementary grocery program.

Program volunteers host our grocery bus program, run our breakfast program, check the Rutherford Community Pantry, and coordinate WECAN food basket pickups throughout the year.

Garden volunteers (New April 2024) help support the CFB grow fresh food for our clients in the Spring/Summer.

Drivers support our various pickups around the city to collect food donations.

Trick or trEAT volunteers support our annual Trick or trEAT food drive in October.

Advocate!

In March 2022, just over two years ago, we were serving about 300 client households per month and had never surpassed 400.

By March 2023, demand rose to more than 1,000 visits! This demand has continued into 2024, as we maintain roughly 1,000 client visits per month. With so many in need of food support, many students are waiting over a month to come for an appointment, as we are fully booked 4 weeks in advance.

Additionally, our 2023 client survey shows us that one in five folks using our services are forced to visit other Edmonton food supports at least once a month in order to feed their families.

There is a crisis in campus food security at the University of Alberta.

Students, use your voice to advocate for better food security on campus: email your student council representative (undergraduate | graduate) and ask what they are doing to support food security on campus.

Stay tuned for more updates from the CFB on how to get involved in our advocacy efforts!

Spread the word!

Follow us on Instagram and share our posts with your community!

Tell everyone you know on campus about us, so more people find our services through word of mouth!

We are happy to print posters for your area of campus, just let us know!
